Mamma and Daddy have great amusement at my expense. When they touch my "button" nose, I open my mouth. They think it's the funniest thing. I think I see something to eat coming towards me! And when they turn the lights off in a room, I open my eyes as wide as I can - real big. Again, they laugh hysterically. I'm just trying to adjust to the change in light. I'm only a baby - why do they laugh at me?!

Laughing
I don't know why Mamma and Daddy are so excited right now. I laughed. Whatever. Does it matter that it was my first laugh? They're funny people. I'm going to laugh. That's not a big deal or anything, is it? Mamma was showing me and Daddy this ancient toy that Mamma had as a baby. You pull a yellow string, and a wooden ball hits a wooden block. You pull a blue string, and a wooden ball hits a bell. It's funny. Especially the yellow string. They caught my third laugh on video. If I ever figure out how to post video, maybe I'll show it off.
Who put those there?

Does this look familiar Unca' Yo?
What your people call "pica", my people call "breakfast". Now that I have found my hands, I use them to eat blankets. I consume upwards of six or seven blankets a day. The blankets themselves I obtain by hunting in the wild blanket savannas of Western Madison, or I just eat the pre-packaged ones Mamma and Daddy give me (I think we keep a small group of domesticated blankets in the backyard). The ones Mamma and Daddy bring aren't dangerous, but stalking a wild blanket is a very difficult and dangerous operation; wild blankets can only be subdued by the power of baby drool. Luckily I never run out of ammo.

Future musician
Maybe I'll take up the piano? I definitely love music! I smile when I listen to my kiddy-reggae CD from Uncle Yo, and demand that Mamma dance with me. And I love the music played by my bouncer and car mirror. If I take after Daddy, I'll be a really good musician. But if I also take after Mamma, I'll have terrible taste in music.

Happy Birthdays
Daily routine
I'm starting to get on a bit of a daily routine. I wake Mamma and Daddy up at 8am (+/- 1hr) and then do my morning exercises. After about 2 hours, I need a little cat nap. Then more exercises. And then my big nap. I go down between noon to 2pm, and then sleep for about 4-5 hours. It helps if I'm in the car, or in the stroller. I like to sleep in odd positions, not in my bassinet. Then I'm awake and like to listen to my music. Mamma and Daddy try to get me to sleep at 7:30pm. I'll cat nap a little. But I want to party with them! They usually tucker me out by 9-10pm. And then I'll sleep, but wake up every 3 hours for food. I used to only wake up once at night to eat.
So, since I nap the longest during the day... does that mean I have my days and nights mixed up?

Heartburn?
How can I have heartburn? I'm only 2.5 months old! But dang, breastmilk hurts when it comes back up (which, since I'm a spitter, it does a lot). So I got me some meds, and we'll see how we go...

Bottle-feeding update
Saturday, June 16, 2007
What did you do this afternoon?
I'm sparring off with my Daddy today over the bottle. We've been going at it for 3 hours so far! It's a battle of wills at this point. The stubborn Taurus against the impatient Aries. Who will win?
Update: It's still a draw. Going on 5 hours. Daddy's managed to sneak 2 ounces into me. But I swear I'm only swallowing what's dripping out of the bottle. And when I'm sucking on the bottle, I'm asleep. So that doesn't count as me taking a bottle!
Update: No fair, they tag-teamed! Daddy gave in after 5.5 hours, so I would have won. But then Mamma stepped into the ring. I couldn't go another 5.5 hours, so I threw in the towel after 20 minutes. But tomorrow is a new day.

Bottle-feeding
I was dreaming that I was drinking. But then I woke and realized I was drinking - from the bottle! Well, I wasn't having any of that. Mamma and Daddy tricked me. Like I said before, I'm not going to get in the bad habit of drinking from a bottle! No way!

Vaccines
I'm not a fan of vaccines. I hear they help to not make me sick when I grow up. But right now, they make me feel drunk. I sleep, and when I wake up I'm groggy and crying in pain from the injection site. And then I fall drunkenly back to sleep.
Oh, and here's a photo of me BEFORE I got the vaccines. Imagine what I was like after :)

Back to Madison

Because I was so good in the car on the way to Columbus, Mamma and Daddy bravely drove back to Madison in one day. It was a long drive. But I enjoyed sleeping, looking at myself in my mirror and listening to its music. I was really good the entire way (well, maybe not the last 20 minutes - I was hungry). Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the food at Woody's Family Restaurant in El Paso, IL. Ick!

Developmental milestones - 2 months
Social smile: I'm good at this one. I like to smile at Mamma and Daddy's faces. But not at their camera. That wouldn't be a social smile... that would be smiling for the camera. I'm not quite that advanced yet.Cooing: I'm good at this one too! I'm practicing give and take talking with Mamma and Daddy.
Moving my arms and legs: I love riding my invisible bicycle and swatting at the invisible flies around my head.
Sleeping through the night: Okay, fine. Bring up my weakness. I LOVE to sleep. But what is your definition of "night"? I like to sleep from midnight to 8am. That's night. Just not when Mamma and Daddy want me to sleep.Bottle-feeding: Why drink from the bottle? That's the first step towards alcoholism. So I'm fighting it all the way!
My surrogate aunts
I had a blast meeting my surrogate Aunt Jess! Since my Mamma has known her forever, I felt comfortable enough to not be on my best behavior. So I cried a lot for her. Hey, I had to get it out before I went to a baby shower. Who wants a crying baby at a baby shower?
And I also met my surrogate Aunt Heather. She's the mother of (one of) my future boyfriend Whatshisname.

Thumb
I sucked my thumb for the first time today. Mamma and Daddy's camera-fu was weak, and they didn't capture a photo. But that's okay. Because I've already forgotten about my thumb. So much to do, so much to learn!

Primetime TV
At primetime, when other families are perhaps watching television, I want my own version of TV. I demand my parents put me in my bouncy chair and dance for me. I love how much control I have over them. And then when they bore me, I change the channel and watch the flashing lights. Ooohhh, three channels!
Eating
Don't let looks deceive you. I'm sleeping in this photo. I think Daddy is trying to get me to eat with this thing called a "bottle." But why? It's so much easier to eat from Mamma. Less effort. I'm sure eventually I'll acquiesce and enjoy this bonding time with Daddy. But for now, I'll have fun kicking and screaming while they put this "bottle" in my mouth.

My exciting day

Don't I look just thrilled to have been dragged out on the town to see Madison? Mamma and Daddy took me to State Capitol to the Farmer's Market. Boring. Slept through it. And then they took me out to lunch. Boring. Slept through it. And then we went for coffee. Boring. Slept through it. And then we went to Whole Foods to buy fish for dinner. Boring. Slept through it. I need excitement in my life! I need to go to Columbus!
