Soccer
I like soccer. Games. Not practice. And only playing defense. On offense I get a bit too aggressive when the ball isn't near me. I'm doing my best to elbow other kids from getting to the ball. But my favorite part is the playground by my game field. The tire swing is awesome. At Nina's field there isn't anything to play on. So I'm lucky.
Book signing
My first book signing. Where I met a real live author. And I stood in the same place she stood! I love writing, so this was so exciting. And I got to see the cover of her next book, and help decide what she'll write for her next book. And I got to ask her questions. My first celebrity. And she has wavy hair like me.
And Ewan liked it too.
e: THAT WAS AMAZING!

Lego Ninjago Party
Daddy all of a sudden turned into a Sensei. And he taught us obedience and how to throw ninja stars and aim, and get strong and to use a (inflatable) sword. For all that work we got candy, cake and Lego crayons. It was the best birthday ever!!
Birthday morning
Getting cake and presents in the morning? It's ok. But getting a ton of Lego is awesome! Forgot all about the cake and made 2.5 Lego sets by 10am.
Birthday poem
Ok we'll start the poem with lice
(we did with Nina's so that's twice)
and hopefully this ends the tale
of how a birthday prezzy failed
and we can keep our brains and wits
for next year's poems that won't have nits
(it isn't sweet it is not nice
to start a birthday poem with lice.)
What to say, how to begin
this year's events and where you've been
or what you've seen or what you've done
you're always busy on the run
though sitting has its moments too
there's always stuff that you can do
like playing checkers in the fun way
(goofy rules say there's just ONE way)
where's the fun in that we ask?
It's just a GAME and not a task!
You left the Bear Cat room behind
sometimes we have to lose to find
our next best ever super cool
(even when its name is school)
but you were ready, good to go
"reading ready" (long ago)
and also numbers, diagraphs
and ways with words that made us laugh
like Plato's name is really Play Doh
and your big toe is your Thumb Toe
This is the year that you were five
we blinked and then you took a dive
and now you're six with big boy pants,
larger helmets, bigger 'tants
(which is a kind of louder rant
that kids do without much of thinking
...grownups do with lots of ...
Well nevermind it's onto chess
'cause what we know is you don't rest
the doctor gave you medicine
you swallowed it (was that a grin?)
Turns out it worked for half a minute,
bed at 10? Well you're not in it!
Lego calls you, castle battles
things that race and trains that rattle
angry birds fight greenish pigs
there's leaves to float there's swords from twigs
there's books to read and bugs to catch
there's worms and dirt and plots to hatch!
Do Super Heroes sleep at all?
Does Spider Man climb up a wall
or spin a web or catch a fall while he is dozing?
I don't think do, sleep for him
is just a No Go.
Still a body needs to rest,
just not in dentist's chairs, a test
to see how fast exams can beeth
when chasing you to see your teeth
and by the way you lost a few
which is what happens when you do
the famous lunch box trick and wiggle
'till almost...another jiggle...
now you have it, now it's done
a tooth removed: Tooth Fairy One.
Winter snow days it was COLD
you missed your friends so it got old
and even though there was a flu shot
you got sick and must have caught
the one that came without a Band Aid
never will THAT image fade of
no tears Ewan for the shot
A BAND AID ON IT?
I THINK NOT!
We love you drawings and your cuddles
how you jump in every puddle
skills in building, washing cars
we're pretty sure you'll reach the stars?
'Why?' you ask, well let me say
it's just 'cause you can make our day
by being YOU, a perfect mix
of smart and sweet,...Ewan at six.

Soccer season
After a week of practice being rained out, we finally had our first two games. And we won them both. And I got to the ball and stopped them as goalie. Too bad it was such a beautiful sunny day that everyone else lounged around instead of taking pictures of me. Nina. It was my game!
Morning potions
To improve our mood we made love potions and perfumes. Or we turned other into frogs and made them disappear. Or we ate sprinkles. That improves your mood too.
Really becoming monsters
Mamma and Daddy thinks we were only pretending to be monsters. But after staying awake until 12:30am and waking up at 7:30am, we really were monster moody!
Monster High Bday Party
School on a Saturday night? Sure, so long as we're all monsters, doing potions class and sleeping over!
Birthday
Birthdays are good for presents and morning cake. But remind me next year to not have my birthday on a Tuesday. Because going to school and then soccer and then Girl Scouts and then home to bed is a bit much. I had to wait until the next day to play with my new toys.

8th Birthday Poem!
Your seventh year
seemed pretty nice
in spite of
starting out with lice,
you left your training wheels behind
and found a lot of trees to climb
(and gave your parents heart attacks
by swinging from your knees) a fact
that I predicted years ago
'cause even then you liked to show
your fearlessness, your happy glow
with movement, grace
and letting go,
to heck with caution! Not to brag
but gravity is such a drag!
Gymnastics followed,
no surprise, a little safer
for your eyes since sometimes
trees that grow in parks
let loose a little skin or bark...
You crossed the bridge
became a Brownie
(try to find a rhyming soundie)
it looks like you have fun a lot
with cookies, camping, tying knots,
(this last will help with fishing line
in case you feel the need to dine
again on something you just caught
'cause really why else learn to knot?)
Your first time fishing, like a pro!
A cast, a tug, and then a "whoa!"
You reeled it in right off the bat
And we had dinner just like that.
Oak Island visits, Mamma's school
with games and gardens and a pool,
kid's museums, Crayon Places
Camp Butterworth and happy faces...
Summer came and then it went
but on its way it must have sent
a small request for snow and cold
so school was put on hold (I'm told)
but you weren't worried,
not the least
you kept busy losing teeth
and writing notes to Santa Claus
with clear directions, even maps
(in case of understanding gaps.)
We love a girl with clear eyed goals!
That's how we rock, that's how we roll!
And I was told these 'maps' to goaling
helped you score as well in bowling...
Disco parties, karaoke,
Lego Kid's Fest, okey dokey,
rhyming words and riffs of rapping
no one catches Nina napping!
Seven was the anti-funk
(though throwing up on Ewan's bunk
was hardly funly, mostly bad
it made a lot of people sad.)
But really what you bring is happy
zip and smart and kind of snappy,
curious, more up than down
...piano lessons! Now you've found
a place to sit
a place to linger
keys to press with every finger...
Like yesterday, I see you dancing
bumping in delight and prancing
to a tune that got your groove on
to a beat that got your move on.
Now you are a whole lot taller
with a smile that's so not smaller,
Nina Nina at year eight:
Oh my...
the music you will make.
Mamma forwarded a birthday email me. I'm not generally allowed to use email. Here's my response.
Who what how
Mamma do you mean like I'm allowed to email you or is this a dream. SMACK!!!Ow! ok I guess it's not a dream
