I'm not afraid of time-out
That's the worst they bring? Bah! I can get away with opening the front door and running down the street to get popcorn from the nice neighbors while Mamma and Nina are distracted by trying on clothing for the Derby and while Daddy is distracted by the phone. They think they can lock the front door? I unlock. They latch the door? I can almost reach it with stools and chairs. I shall not be stopped from my devious 3year old domination!

Wizards and witchcraft
Harry Potter has been teaching me how to be a wizard. And I've been paying close attention. I made this balloon stick to the ceiling. And no matter how much Mamma and Daddy tried to convince me of static electricity and tried to recreate my trick, they couldn't. Proof. Magic.

Books
Books are the greatest invention ever and I can't wait to read on my own. Outside. Because that would then combine my two favorite things. Except I'm not sure how I'll read while running and jumping and climbing.

Lauren
I am in love with Lauren. She is brilliant and beautiful and funny.
N: You better hurry up before you give your Dad an aneurysm.
lauren: When I know what that is I'll be impressed.

Cupcakes
I had elephant and frog cupcakes for my birthday at school. And Nina came to the LadyBug room to celebrate with me.
But then she had to go back to the BearCat room, and I DID NOT WANT HER TO GO!!!! If Mamma comes at a different time and doesn't take me home, I scream and cry. If Daddy comes at a different time and doesn't take me home, I scream and cry. And if Nina comes to my room at a different time and we don't go home, I SCREAM AND CRY!!! Do not mess with my expectations or routines.

Little Miss Farts-a-lot
n: Daddy, why do you fart so much?
D: I don't know. Why do you fart so much?
n: Because I'm farty-pants!
3 years!
Cake for breakfast. And cupcakes at school. And presents at home. And my favorite dinner of pizza. Turning older is okay.
And while I can talk and run and get into trouble and be very very sweet, turning 3 is a little scary. I'm excited to move to the Turtle preschool room, but I'll miss my LadyBug friends. And I don't feel like learning how to use the toilet. I'm realizing that with age comes all these expectations.

Poem from NeeNee
Dear Ewan:
So much has changed
since you were two
there's lots more
you have found to do,
like running down the railroad tracks
and deftly landing teasing whacks
on unsuspecting friends and sisters-
...little boy?
That would be Mister.
You've discovered that it's fun
to do the toilet paper run
out of the bathroom just to make
your Daddy laugh:
"Look! I make snake!"
The zoo still holds its fascination
(all the critters of creation)
but you still like monkeys best
you haven't given them a rest...
which brings us to
the big boy bed,
and though your sister
is ahead
in sleep aversion
now it's said
that you are catching up (too bad!)
no more the singing, then the snore
you jump right out,
there's glee galore!
We miss the sweetness of your songs,
but it's still there
cuz when you're wrong,
you give the bestest hugs and kisses
(after teasing, smacks, near misses...)
Resistance to your charms won't do
Your upturned face, a sweet "tank you"
and we collapse, our hearts are melted
love is all that can be felted.
Toenails of blue
and ketchup fests,
being outside is always best...
YOU know that bacon's not your bum,
the iPod is your indoor fun.
Squirrels eat donuts?
I suppose,
(but then YOU put CORN up your nose...)
Did someone mention cheeseballs, yay!
But there will never come a day
when cabbage that is colored red
can pass as food, you won't be fed
a diet that contains this dread.
And you love trees, how they hold hands,
you say "hello"
to all your fans!
(People, houses, fences too)
your friendly greeting
goes out to
the world you love-
It loves you back,
I know for sure,
it is a fact.
...Ewan at three
just possibly
the cutest brown eyed grandbaby
or toddler boy
or little man,
the Ew we love is sweeter than
a song, a tree, a poem all sappy:
Asked if sick?
It's "No. I happy."
Anyone with eyes to see
knows you are Three
just perfectly.

Big head
I'm still 2. For 2 more days. We went shopping for a new bike helmet for Nina. She got a pink one for 5 year olds. I don't need a helmet for school yet, so I just tried some on for fun. Did I fit the helmets for 3 years old? No. Did I fit the helmets for 5 year olds? Just barely. Am I still 2? Yup. Do I have a ginormous-humongous head? Oh yeah.

Birthday season
Tis the season. My friend Max turned 5. And we get to play more tomorrow. I love April. Also know as Abril since I'm becoming more fluent in Spanish.

Pjs
I got an early birthday present (thanks Cooke-Stevos). Star Wars pjs! But since Nina likes that movie sooo much, and they were just a little big, I let Nina borrow them. For tonight. The fight over them will start tomorrow.

Story timed
Mamma and Daddy are so funny. They used to call it being story-timed when they fall asleep in bed with us at bedtime. What they should have called it was just bedtime as even when they just wait for us to stop getting out if our beds they still fall asleep first.

No dessert?
We had our Easter candy before dinner last night. So Mamma and Daddy said we couldn't have dessert after dinner, especially as we'd not done a good job eating our dinner. Dinner was all cleaned up. We sat back at the table and asked for our dinners again. And ate it all. To get more dessert. P3wnd.
Little known fact about me
I love to say 'hello'. To everyone. If the window is down while driving in the car, I will say or yell hello to anyone I see. People in other cars. People waiting for the bus. Sometimes I just say hello to the sidewalk and the fences and the trees and the houses.

Spring cleaning
Creation
n: Did you get me a the store?
M: No, we made you at a hospital.
n: Did you use tools?
M: No.
n: Then how did you make my arms? And how did Daddy make my curls?
M: Ooohh. Daddy gave you genes, and I gave you genes. Not like the jeans pants. You were in my belly, and we both gave you genes. I gave you genes for blonde hair, and Daddy for brown hair. And you picked my gene. I gave you genes for straight hair, and Daddy for curly hair. And you picked Daddy's gene.
n: But I was just a little baby. How did I know what to pick?
M: That's right. You didn't really know. But you were just being you - and that's how you are you!
M: No, we made you at a hospital.

Easter
We had candy for breakfast, candy for snack, candy with lunch and dinner. I can't think of a better holiday. My only concern is that with all this candy, I don't want any more of my birthday cake.
And what makes for a better weekend than birthday parties of your birthday and then a day full of chocolate bunnies?
5 years! Plus 1 day
Being 5 sounds so mature. I'm going to go to Kindergarten now that I'm 5. I have to be more responsible now that I'm 5 and I keep telling Mamma and Daddy how good I am now that I'm 5. It's pretty cool.
I do a lot of writing. I know a lot of words, and copy a lot more words. I'm always asking about how to spell words and love sounding them out. I still think it's weird that 'k' is for kitten and kitchen but not for cat or catch. Numbers are fun. I count from 1-100 (skipping 40-89, there is just so much repetition that I want to hurry up and get to the good stuff of 90-100!).
I'm still scared of a lot of things. I need someone to go to the bathroom with me if no one is on that floor. Ewan often volunteers to come with me. I need someone to stay in my bed with me at bedtime. Ewan often volunteers to sleep with me. We've been having slumber parties together for about a month now sleeping in my bed.
I'm not a fan of the morning and getting out of bed. I'm not a fan of going to bed at night, or from waking up when I nap at school.
I love eating. Pretty much I'll try anything. Fish, funny pink food (liverwurst). I like gummy candy over chocolate. But I'll eat chocolate too.
I'm not a fan of clothing at bedtime.
I love Michael Jackson, funk, the Fresh Beat Band, and just all music. Singing, dancing, learning the words to new songs.
I will out-logic you anytime. I can master manipulate with the best of you. And I remember things. And will use them to my advantage.

Star Wars Jedi princess party
The best party ever! Pin the tail on the explosion of the Death Star, collect the pieces of the exploded ship, create and decorate your light saber (pink handles were a favorite), and then piñata Darth Vader. Oh, and cake. And presents. With Michael Jackson music. Heaven!!
Poem from NeeNee
Dearest Nina:
So much has changed
since you were four
there's more of you
that we adore!
You've elevated hair and fashion
now there's food to Newest Smashion,
also there's your Spanish words,
English, Andrew...HERDS of WORDS!
You speak and sprawl them
at the center (writing) stories
we can enter
through your drawings, bright and clear
(Mountains of Malaska
are particularly dear.)
Apparently you dislike morning
'cuz it comes without a warning,
so let me see if this is right:
You don't like mornings OR the night?
'Cuz I have heard,
it has been said,
that one place you dislike is bed...
until it's time to go to school
(your Daddy's DNA must rule...)
You may have blue eyes blondy curls
You may be Princess Ultra Girl,
but Daddy wrote the book on this,
and I would be a bit remiss
not to remind both him and you
that all will change (and this will too.)
The zoo still has its trains and
you of course like choo choo riding,
but this year you found carousels!
Where has THAT been hiding???
And when it's summer and too hot
no one has said it better,
when armpits hair and toenails
couldn't possibly be sweater,
You lift your lovely face and say,
all sweet and elegantly,
a pause, just so and then
"I think my bum has to go pee."
And thanks to parents who announce
(they don't restrain a bit)
your statements to the world
with all their wisdom and their wit...
We now know burps are second place,
they'll never be the hit,
'cuz you declared at dinnertime
"Farts are my faaaavorite."
There's more to say,
like wanting princes
for their house and money,
there's dancing Michael Jackson style
your face that's always sunny.
There's garlic hummus, apples
dipped in ketchup
bumpy people,
who may be lumped and frumpled
may be grey and slightly feeple,
but no one loves you more
than we who note
your sweet arrival:
Miss NinaNina Ballerina,
our Golden Girl turned Five-all.

April fools!
I tried to fool Mamma and Daddy yesterday, but it didn't work. That know I don't give a fig about sitting on the potty. I love me my mud.

I did it! (photo NOT to come)
I pooped in the potty! All by myself! But really, is there any other way?
