Roadtrip

I may not be able to see you for a while.

Who's the boss applesauce?

Mamma was setting out clothes for me to wear, and get this... she didn't even ask my opinion! So I told her. Tights! Now if she'd only brush my hair.

Numbers

Mamma and Daddy find it amusing that the only numbers I forget are the ones related to my birthdate. Excuse me? Whose responsibility is it to spoil me and remember my birthday? Not mine.

Yellow much?

Hmm. I think Mamma and Daddy are going a little overboard while they try to teach me my colors.

Proud sister

I got to see my baby-brother Skully again today. He even woke up from his nap using Mamma's placenta as a pillow to take a peek at me and say hello. He probably wonders who I am and why I keep changing his nickname (George, Skull-splitter, Skully). It's because he keeps outgrowing his old one. You can't call a 1lb7ounce fetus a Skull-splitter anymore. He needed a more mature nickname.

And merry christmas. Aaaaahhhhhh.

Other perks

In addition to pressies, I got ribbon and hats, and who doesn't like to wear boxes?

Perfect day

Pretty snow. Morning sleigh ride for warm drinks. Swedish meatballs and cheese and sausage. A loooong nap. And pressies. Can we do this again tomorrow?

God Jul!

Calm as a cucumber

Sure, we celebrate Xmas tomorrow. Sure, I'll eat lots and lots and lots of sausage and cheese and meatballs and cookies. And I'll get lots of presents. But that's no reason for me to be excited or full of energy. I'm cool. I'm calm. I'm not excited. WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT OH MY GOD ITS XMAS TOMORROW AND I GET PRESSIES!!!!!

Cyclops

Teeheeheeheehee. When Daddy gets really close, he gets all funny looking and has only one eye. That's funny.

Making space

3 more sleeps until pressies! I must take inventory of what I already have in order to make space for what might be coming...

Presents!!!

I asked Santa for wrapping paper and ribbon. And not only did he send those, he included boxes and styrofoam! I'm in heaven!

Same outfit, different day

Another 10.3"? Yawn. Wake me when it really snows.

Truth

Mamma took me to the doctor to see if there's something horribly wrong with me. An evil doctor man put cotton swabs in my throat, and an evil x-ray tech lady put me in a torture chamber to take chest x-rays. And of course, they found nothing. It wasn't until Mamma took me home that I shared with her the remedy to my fever.... a ride in the snow followed by teddy grahams and milk. Duh.

Tiring

So maybe getting sick wasn't the bestest way to teach Mamma and Daddy about the holiday spirit. Mind if I just lie here a moment? And does Santa bring early presents? Like health?

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Holiday priorities

Mamma and Daddy had all these things they wanted to get done that had nothing to do with celebrating the holiday season: do favors for friends, help students before exams, get the heat turned back on, go to meetings, get their hair cut... They needed help remembering that the holiday season is all about spending time together with family. I think by being sick for 2 days now with a fever will help them reprioritize.

Is Santa going to deduct presents if I run a super high temperature at night just to get some extra hugs and snuggles?

Other new words that sound like sick

Sing and sit. But my 's' sound is more like a 'sh' sound. Much to Mamma and Daddy's great amusement. I don't understand their humor. Yet.

Pain

Ugh. When do you stop getting teeth? I'm getting my last incisor, and either it brought along a fever, or I'm just lucky. So I learned a new word. "Sick". To go along with me learning hippo, church, chapstick, brrr (did I mention it was -25'C/-12'F today?), oatmeal, blanket, pillow, and brother. That's my huge effort for now. With Mamma and Daddy talking to much, it's hard to keep up!

Tick tock

I clocked Mamma today. Literally. I accidentally hit her in the face with Daddy's alarm clock.

Advice to my brother

Time to start writing down pearls of wisdom for my baby brother.
- If there's a puddle of water, you must walk in it, regardless of how cold it is.
- If you are given something to drink that will stain your clothing, make sure to dump as much of it on your shirt as possible.
- Boxes make the best toys.

Impersonation of Mamma

With my baby brother growing bigger, I thought it was time he got to know me. Since I can't see him, I lift up Mamma's shirt and say "hi brother". Just in case he's sleeping, I pat Mamma's belly to wake him and say "hi brother" again. Then a quick kiss on her belly. And then I pull down her shirt and say "bye bye". I also say "hi brother" to my own belly and pat it. But I can't kiss my own belly. I'm not that flexible.

Pre-xmas presents

GranmaNeenee said Santa was sending me one present to open early. But then all these presents came in the mail! Since it's not yet Xmas, I had to keep opening and opening presents until I found the one that I was supposed to open early. I don't know if this is the present Santa wanted me to get early, but I love that my toeses have noses.

Advents

Mamma's had many an advent calendar in the past. But I'm teaching her their true meaning. Mamma, you open, then shut the window. Go on to the next window. Open, then shut. Repeat. Once you get bored of that, you open, then name the items in all the windows that are open. Repeat.

Nosebleed

Books are so useful. I found out that my nosebleed last night might have been because it's dry in the winter. And not from inhaling book bindings.

Rational thinking

D: Do you want to go outside?
n: No.
D: Why not?
n: Cold.

Snow emergency

I think it should be renamed snow extravaganza. It's exciting to watch all the snow shovelers and snow blowers and snow plows!

Tonal

I did this experiment the other day seeing if I could distinguish between Chinese words that possessed different tonalities, yet had the same phonemic construction. Since I don't listen to Chinese (or any other foreign language really), I shouldn't be able to do this. But I could hear the differences! I kept looking up at Mamma going, "Do you hear this too?" But no. She had not a clue. I completely ruined the whole experiment. And all because Daddy and I listen to music all day. Who knew I was learning so much by listening!

20 months!

To celebrate my turning 20 months old and my baby brother growing for 20 weeks, I got into Mamma's makeup and painted a blue mark across my forehead. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Don't believe Daddy when he tells you I hit my head on the table. Only babies trip. And I'm a toddler. I don't trip: I toddle.

Mamma and Daddy are understanding more of what I have to tell them. Which is great, because now we can have conversations about the ceiling, wall, windows, wreaths, trees, Santa and his reindeer and my poo.

Still taking my afternoon nap starting at 12:30pm. And then I race Daddy to see who finishes their shower first and who wakes up first.

Favorite music right now? Jethro Tull. Favorite food? Pizza and blueberries. So far I haven't tried them together - that would be sheer heaven! Top pick for my baby brother's name? Brother. Or Baby.

Favorite game? Anything where I'm the boss. I tell Mamma and Daddy to lie down, go night-night (they have to close their eyes), and then say 'hi' (they have to wake up). And then we repeat. Over and over and over and over again. Good thing Mamma and Daddy love that game. Over and over and over and over again.

I LOVE bathtime. I can't wait to get into the tub, who cares if I'm still wearing my clothing. And I do not want out. My favorite bath activity is lying down, with my ears underwater, and just enjoying the warmth. Ahhhh.....

Blue

Since I'm getting a baby brother, I thought it would only be fair to him that I start wearing more blue than pink. Plus, I look gooood in blue.

Compromise

Since Mamma won't allow me to sit on her tummy anymore, I had to find a new spot. Daddy doesn't seem to mind, or else he would tell me. Of course come to think of it, when I sit here Daddy doesn't say much of anything to me, or to anyone. Also his face turns a pretty purple-red color and his eyes turn inside-out! I love to learn about colors and silence with Daddy!

Hello?

Does this look like a phone? Remotely.

Mimic

GranmaNee - did you see? Britney's on TV again! I'll show off my belly just like her.

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Tipsy

Mamma and Daddy have taught me not to drink and drive. But I didn't think that reading and rocking would still get me feeling woozy.

Spa day

I don't believe people should work on Mondays. We should all spend Mondays at the spa getting yoghurt facial treatments!

Sunday, November 30, 2008

Orange you glad I didn't say banana?

Daddy doesn't appreciate my sense of humor.

Requests

Oh no! I forgot to tell Santa I wanted wrapping paper and ribbons. They're the best part of Christmas. Do you think he checks his voice mail?

Black Friday

Since today is a big shopping day, I thought it wise to meet with Santa and give him my wish list. He's a very very nice man, though a little scary and intimidating to meet. Why doesn't Mrs Claus suggest he shave his beard - it's kinda scary.

Anyways, I have it under good Santa advisement that I WILL get this train set I want. And a sled. But that's all I could get out of him. So I hope that he'll deliver with books, and markers, and cars, and trucks, and Elmos, and big blocks, and farm houses, and lots of other good things I don't even know about. All in an effort to help our struggling economy of course.

Thanksgiving

I am thankful for Bedstebear, for my baby brother not having signs of spina bifida, for Mamma and Daddy loving me, for Thanksgiving being over so I can go see Santa tomorrow, for my grandparents not being stuck in disasters, and for the lovely dinner Daddy cooked for the last 3 days. Even if I didn't like anything but the green beans.

Introducing Skull-splitter

I really hope Mamma and Daddy don't really name my baby BROTHER 'Skull-splitter'. Just because we have a Viking ancestor with that name does not mean he should have that name. I suppose he does need something to counteract all the pink clothes he'll be wearing though. Ok, how about "Manly McManMan"?

Snow

It snowed! And it goes crunch crunch under my feet when I walk in my new snow boots. Which of course Mamma didn't get a photo of because she was complaining of being too cold. I like the snow.

Dresses no likey

Mamma forgot about a bunch of clothing that was stashed under my bed. So out come more dresses. I'm more of a tomboy. I don't mind the tights, but dresses are heavy. Ick.

If it doesn't fit...

...you must acquit. Does it work if the glove's too big?

My name

I can say my name! No longer do I call myself Na-ni, I finally got it right! I proudly identified Daddy, Mamma and myself by name. But I think Mamma and Daddy were even more proud as they wouldn't stop asking me to say it again and again.
