Happy Halloween!

How fitting. I love peas.

All the better to eat Mamma and Daddy's fingers with.

Mad baby skillz

I am liking smacking things like my toys and people's eyes. I especially like to slap my leg repeatedly when Daddy makes me giggle, because he is so funny, and also devastatingly handsome besides. I like the noises that hands make when they hit other hands too! Here I am teaching Mormor how to make them.

This is my Daddy

He is very handy for certain things, like feeding and bouncies and cuddles. Sometimes all at once, which is messy. He makes me laugh lots too. Also sometimes he is good for personal grooming. Here, Daddy is shown in his capacity as baby hair flosser/baby scalp exfoliator. Some people have to go salons for baby hair flossing, but not me! I make sure to tip him well with lots of hugs and loves and possibly barf.

I am not anemic

Babies have lots to worry about. But now that Daddy's a doctor he can tell certain things. Like whether or not I am healthy, or if I have been getting enough minerals. Well, one less thing to worry about! According to my Dr. Daddy, I have plenty of irony in my blood! Thanks Daddy! YAAAAY

Gravity

Who knew by sitting up I would cause so much drool to come down?

Showing off for Mormor

My Mormor's been visiting since Friday. Since she works with babies, I knew I needed to show off my baby skills to make a good impression! So since she's been here, I've been doing lots of rolling over, talking (she swears I said my name today, but really I was trying to say Mormor), pivoting on my belly, standing (okay, I have some help) and sitting up on my own! I even specially waited for my two bottom teeth to come in so that I could gnaw on her fingers and leave her some memories of me for when she leaves tomorrow.

Pears and oatmeal

I love sweet potato and carrots. They taste great, and I don't stink when I eat them. I don't love pears or oatmeal. Pears taste funny, and the pair make me smell bad and my poopy hurt. Mamma and Daddy swear that it's the sweet potato and carrots that make my poopy hurt, but I don't believe them. How can they hurt me a week later? Bring back the sweet potato!

It's Mamma's birthday!

I woke her up many times last night to see if she was excited that it was her first birthday with me. And then I gave her a gift of spit up. I think she liked it. It made her laugh!

Pumpkins

I passed out after a long day of picking pumpkins. It was hard work! Aren't there fair labor laws to protect babies like me from having to carry such heavy stuff?

Regrets

So maybe ending my poop-strike today wasn't my greatest idea. Ouch. The burn! My doctor told Mamma and Daddy that they could have only made my diet more constipating by adding bananas to the rice, sweet potato and carrots. And I thought the poop-strike was all my idea. Well, at least I can blame the burn on Mamma and Daddy. I demand pears next week.

If anyone is wondering if my head is shrinking, it's not. My head has always been a bit inflated (much like Mamma and Daddy's), but the nurse at my last appointment was a temp, and obviously didn't know much about measuring baby heads.

Abstinence

I figured out what was causing the stink in the house. And it's me! Darn those solids that Mamma and Daddy are feeding me. In an effort to remedy the situation, I've been going on a poop-strike. I'm very proud of myself for going on 7 days now with no poop. Unfortunately, it's not stopping me from stinking. And Mamma and Daddy are starting to talk about my lack of poop to anyone that will listen. Which is a bit embarrassing. Maybe tomorrow I'll give up on my poop-strike. Just in time for Mormor's arrival to welcome her back!

New language?

Daddy took me into visit Mamma at work (last Friday), and we went to see this nice lady. But then she put me in a padded room, had me look at a TV screen with weird pictures and played me a new language. The language didn't make much sense. "ah- bee- dah- dee- bah- boo- daa..." It felt like I was in there forever! And then Daddy and the nice lady talked forever about something called statistical acquisition of grammar. The nice lady made it up to me by giving me a free t-shirt. Yes, I can be bought with free gifts.

Current favorite toy

Ooh, Daddy's watch, Daddy's watch, Daddy's watch. (hand repeatedly smacking the watch) I love Daddy's watch. So shiny. Daddy's watch, Daddy's watch, Daddy's watch. (hand repeatedly smacking the watch) I want to eat the watch. Ooh, he took it off and put it away? Hunh? What was I doing?

Rogue Status

I've got the coolest LA street(baby)wear to be found in Madison. Because I've got connections. Keeping it all in the family.

Busy day!

My vocabulary continues to grow, as does my learning of the Swedish language. If Mamma keeps putting me in all these vintage outfits, I'm going to have to keep learning what I'm advertising around town!

Though not a Swedish word, but I'm enjoying saying "deh-deh" or "dah-dah" over and over again. It's funny to see Daddy squeal with joy. I guess he thinks I'm saying Dadda? Silly silly Daddy. Not yet. I'm still just babbling.

And I've moved on from sweet potatoes to carrots. They're runnier than the sweet potato, but they're still tasty. I was a little sidetracked today while being fed the carrots. I was more interested in chewing on the spoon. Because.... I'm cutting my first tooth! What great inventions. They make gnawing on Mamma and Daddy's fingers much more interesting. If you chew just right, and just hard enough on their fingers, they make great funny faces.

Teaching

Is Mamma trying to teach me to generalize from my milk bottle to other bottles? Because if she is, she's not doing a good job of it. Silly Mamma forgot to take the top off.

Who knew?

Who knew playing with one's tongue is so much fun? I can stick out my tongue, touch it to my upper lip, and flip the tip behind my upper gums. What fun!!

Playing with Mamma and Daddy

I love playing with Mamma and Daddy... at 10pm, and 1am, and 3:30am, and sometimes at 5am. They keep trying to close their eyes, so I swat at them to wake back up and play with me. I don't know if that will work tonight. They've put me in a new straight jacket. I'm currently typing with my nose.

Eating

I've taken it upon myself to feed myself. Mamma and Daddy were doing a fine job, but I can do better?

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Sweet potato

I love eating the sweet potato. I hate it when Mamma says there is no more sweet potato. But what I think I hate even more is what sweet potato does to me a couple of days later! Ouch! And stinky! I wish instead of asking for sweet potato for my birthday, I had asked for a mature digestive system.

Sitting?

I continue to work on sitting. I'd prefer to just stand, but I need a lot of help to stand, whereas I only need a bit of help to sit. I can tell that I'm getting better at sitting by myself as my face-plants from the sitting position aren't as painful now.

Double holiday

I got to celebrate two holidays today. I got to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving by enjoying some more sweet potato (no turkey as otherwise I would sleep through celebrating the other holiday). And it's Columbus day, which is a holiday to celebrate my parents meeting in Columbus, OH.

What am I?

I guess sometimes I wear clothing that is a bit androgynous. And so the other day a woman asked Daddy:
"What is it?"
Daddy's answer?
"A Buckeye."

Cake?

Mamma and Daddy celebrated my 1/2 birthday by eating cake. Not to be left out, I had my first taste of real solids - sweet potato. Initially, I have to admit, it was a little weird. But after moving it around in my mouth for a bit, I realized, wow, I have to share this with my chin! Bring on the flavors - I can't wait for chocolate!

1/2 year!

Wow. I'm already 6 months old. Time sure does flash in the blink of an eye! And what do I have to show for the last month of my life? A lot of smiles. And a lot of laughter and language. I've started yargling. It's a cross between gargling and yodeling. My two hands work well independently and together. And my feet are beginning to work together as well, helping me to pick up toys, and to push myself forward. Sometimes I find toys to be a little far away, and Mamma or Daddy to be a bit slow on giving them to me. So I've decided to just reach for them myself rather than having to wait for someone to give it to me. I'll even pivot myself around in order to get what I want. Plus, crying is giving me such a headache!

I'm not sleeping through the night. Mostly because Mamma is right beside me, so why hold out if I'm hungry, right? But to be fair to Mamma and Daddy, I am napping during the day more regularly. A long nap in the morning, and then two small ones in the afternoon. Have I mentioned how much I love swaddling? It just eases me to sleep. That, plus bouncy bouncy rocky rocky.

I'm still eating the rice cereal. But man, does it ever give me gas!

What?

Why, I'm SURE I don't know who got you sick Daddy.
*blink blink blink*

A silent Mamma?

I'm a little confused here. Mamma takes me into the bathroom and all of a sudden there are two of her. One holding me, and another one holding another baby. I used to think it was the other Mamma that was smiling at me and I heard talking, but I'm wising up on this trick. When I see the other Mamma moving her lips, it's the Mamma that is holding me that is making the sound. Like she's a ventriloquist or something. Eventually I'll figure out this trick, and who the other baby is that I see. She's really cute.

Pressie for Daddy!

I lied a couple of days ago. I'm not allergic to the Swiss. I had a cold. But I couldn't say that because otherwise I would have ruined the surprise pressie I had for Daddy. I gave him my cold! I hope he likes it.

Exciting day

I got a special treat today. My daycare lady is on vacation, and so Mamma stayed home with me. She took me out on a special day trip. To the Department of Motor Vehicles! What an absolutely thrilling place. There are tons of people to smile at, and they're all happy to smile back at me. I love commanding attention.

Two beds

Mamma and Daddy take up a lot of space in my big bed. So I'm thrilled that I'm starting to take naps in my little bed. It's so refreshing to be able to more around or roll to my side. I love having space to spread my limbs (once I escape my swaddling)!
