Happy Hallowe'en

I made it further than last year trick-or-treating around the block, and love the idea of putting candy in my bucket. I would take candy out of my bucket, hand it to the nice person sitting on their porch, but then put the candy back in my bucket (which usually earned me and my sister extra candy). But the best part was being outside when it was dark and being able to run around really late.

Happy Hallowe'en

This is a great holiday! You say 'thank you' and then 'trick-or-treat' and then you get candy. But then it gets cold and you go home and eat the candy.

M: You can eat your candy when we get home.
n: Can we go home?

My first car accident

Sure it was just a fender-bender. But it's still my first. Nothing a scone and coffee can't fix.

Germs

n: I don't have worms.

Shopping is yucky

After my doctor's appointment (for my age, I'm 50th%ile for weight, 75th%ile for height, and off the charts for my head circumference), Mamma and Mormor wanted to drop Nina off to preschool, and take me shopping. Yucky! So when we got to daycare, I promptly informed them that I was staying put with my teachers, and they could go shopping without me. But they still had to buy me stuff.

Mormor

M: Say "Mormor".
e: more.
M: Say "Mormor".
e: more-more.

Which one of these is not like the other?

Bathtime:
Ewan - cries and screams at the thought of having a bath, in the bath, etc.
Nina - plays in the bath until she turns into a prune.

Pre-bedtime:
Ewan - tells you when he's tired and walks up the stairs.
Nina - would stay up all night if permitted.

Bedtime:
Ewan - Wants the same books each night, water, hurls himself out of your arms.
Nina - Wants similar books each night, several books, water, spray, bedtime story, laydownforoneminute, and then typically (although improving) will still not want MammaDaddy to leave the room.

Tornado warning

The windy sky was exciting to watch. And the dark clouds and rain were neat too. However, once they issued a tornado warning, it wasn't much fun being stuck with 15 preschoolers and teachers and a bunch of toddlers and their teachers in a pantry. And poor Ewan... 11 toddlers and their teachers in a closet! For 15 minutes! Good thing we brought crayons and paper. I was just sad I didn't bring my blanket. Because it was nap time and I was tired.

Unimpressed

Bathtime stinks. Even the thought of going near the bath is awful. You tell me I'm having a bath, I'll run in the opposite direction.

Lip gloss

Party favor necklaces that hold lip gloss? I'm all over that! And it's all over me.

Costume

For Hallowe'en I'm dressing up as a prostate gland.

Best present ever

Forget cake and jewelry and flowers. The best birthday present I can give Mamma today is crying and crying and crying for her instead of going to sleep. I'm working on a record here... going on 30 minutes!

You say tomato

n: I don't like vegetables!
M: Do you like carrots?
n: Yes.
M: Do you like corn?
n: Yes.
M: Do you like asparagus?
n: Yes.
(gobbles up carrots, corn, asparagus).

1 1/2 years!

I have great communication skills and imagination for being 18 months old. I sometimes use my words, sometimes I use grunts, and sometimes I just bring Mamma/Daddy what it is I want to give them a hint. My favorite words are: milk, Nenaah, Mamma, Dadda. It's mostly still one-word sentences. But I've gotten out a two-worder every now and then. But since my needs are usually cracker, milk, poo-poo, and night-night, I'm a pretty simple guy.

It took me a while to learn how to tantrum. I used to watch Nina do it, and I'd copy her. They'd last a couple seconds. But now I understand the emotion behind tantrumming and can go for several minutes.

I love to pretend to be a dog. Barking, panting, crawling around like a dog. And my new favorite, putting my head in bowl while I'm crawling around - looking like I'm bobbing for apples. I'm pretending I'm eating dog food! But I'll still share with my stuffed-dog Frieda; she's my pal.

I'm still bath-striking. And stroller-, and cart-striking. But I do like to hold hands while walking. Or running around the store giggling with glee as Mamma and Daddy try to get anything done.

I'm starting to eat at the dinner table instead of my tray. But Mamma won't let me eat some meals at the table. She thinks I'm too messy when I inhale Daddy's Cincinnati Chili (my favorite food in the entire universe). I wonder if she worries I'll eat the table now that I have a lot of teeth (all canines have poked through).

Bedtime is 7:30pm. I like to read a quick book (about hugs, monkeys or snakes preferably), and then just want to be put to bed. Soothie, roll over, and blanket. Blissful sleep. No need for cuddles or kisses. I love me my sleep (although the last couple days I've started to chirp a little before actually falling asleep). And then I wake Mamma and Daddy up around 6am. Even if they try keeping me up later, I'm still up early.

I'm all about books and cars. I like to do anything Nina does. So right now that includes bringing books to read in the car, fighting over Bedstebear, standing on the sofa, going tpbhtth, and rocking out to Dora. Like Dadda and Nina, I'm a music aficionado. My favorite song is Wubb die Click by Timo Jahns (what happens when Dadda has like a bazillion songs).

Chew chew

I love playing with cars and trains. And even things that don't look like cars and trains I turn into cars and trains. Chew chew!

X

I went to my friend's Xavier's birthday party today, and I also found out my cousin (born yesterday) is named Xavier, and I live down the street from Xavier U. I'm so excited about the first two (living close to a university isn't really exciting), I climbed the wall!

Friday night

I don't understand all these words. Why don't they move like the pictures on the TV?

What did you have for dinner?

I don't feel good, so I had ketchup. (Daddy has strep for the 2nd time in a month! So far, he hasn't spread it to family)

Brains aren't good enough

n: I'm so cute. You need to give me that.

I haven't napped in about two weeks. I'm not tired. I don't need to go to bed early, just because I sometimes doze off in the middle of . . .

NINA

Mamma and Daddy don't have to sign me in at preschool anymore. I can do it all by myself!

3 1/2 years!

I can write an 'N'! And an 'i' and another 'N' and an 'A'. Up-down-up. Up-small-circle. Up-down-up. Up-down-across-the-middle. I now sign myself in at daycare each morning.

I wear underwear all day and night long. (I had difficulties with night-time enuresis - I love that word).

I can count to 10 in Spanish.

I get my way through out-logicing Mamma and Daddy. Well, usually they're laughing so hard by my logic that I usually get my way in the end.

My current fashion tastes are very retro, very 80s.

I'm scared of scary-things and monsters that come out in my room at night. Fortunately they listen to me when I tell them to go away. And I have magic spray. And Daddy promises to protect me and my imaginary princesses from any scary-things that come knocking on the door.

And the other day I did the monkey bars all by myself!

I SAID

n: I WANT ANOTHER NEW DORA
D: Sweetheart, we need to listen to Mamma, and Mamma said no.
n: NINA SAID YES

Spanish

Dora and my Spanish teacher are both teaching me Spanish. I love Dora. My princess movies are kind of scary, but Dora isn't scary at all. Unless you're wearing a Dora mask. That's scary.

Mean teacher

n: Mamma, Ashley is a mean teacher.
M: Why?
n: Because she yelled at me and that made me sad and I didn't like it. We don't yell.
M: What did she yell at you.
n: Oh, I don't know. Something about listening to the teacher.

Like father, like son

Until I'm old enough to use hair dye, I've been relying on berry juices to color my hair.

Helpful

M: Can you give Ewan a bath?
n: Ha ha ha ha no.

Monday, October 4, 2010

I'll do it myself

e: Mine.
e: Ank ou (thank you).

Do not argue with a princess

n: And then Cinderella got married.
M: Mamma and Daddy are married too.
n: No. You're not merried.
M: Yes. Mamma and Daddy got married before you were born.
n: NO! YOU. ARE. NOT. GETTING. MERRIED.
M: You're right. We're not getting married today. We are already married.
n: YOU ARE NOT MARY!

Goldilocks

I DO NOT LIKE SOCKS OR LONG SLEEVES!!!! It will stay the end of summer all year long. Not too hot, not too cold. No need for long sleeves or socks, but still hot enough for ice cream.
