CU - F - 24hr Drive Thru

Going through the drive-through at McDonald's:

e: 24 hours drive through? It takes 24 hours to get our food? That's crazy!

CU - F - Daddy Daughter Dance

Our annual coordinating outfits puts everyone else to shame.

Catch up - February

Due to technical difficulties, an early spring and general laziness, please accept our apologies for the following catch up from 2016.

Birthday poem

Yesterday you were just two!
Oh wait. What can a NeeNee do
when time keeps ever flying faster
(plus her math is a disaster)...
I guess it's seven after all
it must be 'cuz you've grown so tall
and learned a lot
like how to fall and make your teeth
(two at a time!)
come out at once
which is just fine,
it meant more cash
for you to blow
at Chuck E Cheese for tokens, jeez!
"Gamblings" what your Mamma called it
well perhaps a smallish wee bit;
but let's stay with teeth a minute.
A dentist's chair? Well you're not in it
what's with toothpaste that tastes funny
gummy paste and drool all runny?
Oh the horrors of those X-rays
nix on them, their evil hurt ways
YOU knew that they made no sense
your teeth will ALL fall out and whence
that day will come when they're all new
they'll have to do a repeat: POO!
Enough of pain, let's move to fun!
Last summer surely was the one
to win all prizes for delightment
travels, places and excitement.
Magic Kingdom, Jungle Cruising
Lego Land - no time for snoozing!
(The Changing of the Guard however
what with waiting and bad weather
might have found a faster pace
but then it's called a "change" not race.)
My favorite was your Snow White line
you told a little lie but FINE,
it happens; so? It's smooth that matters
in amongst the small talk chatters.
Asked your favorite color you said
(NOT your favorite, blue and then red)
"white" and I am sure Miss Snow White
fell in love with you at first sight,
as we all did, as we do
with you who used to be just two,
and now you're not, in fact you're seven
(still brown eyes the size of heaven)
I'd be so wrong not to remember
the research you have done on gender,
you discovered girls poo faster
but peeing fast? The boys are masters.
Since we're talking 'bout digestion
should there still be any question
ketchup please on what's for dinner
it's surprising you're not thinner
(I'm not one to talk I know
since from my birth folks in the know
have told me popcorn's not real food
we know they're wrong, I think they're rude!)
As long as there's a sometime apple
French fries, cheese, there is no gapple
in your diet (or in mine)
we're good, we're healthy and we're fine.
Besides you drink your milk from jugs,
big gallon ones, they're hard to lug
but not when you are smart and strong
with glasses put in places wrong.
You caught a leprechaun this year!
I saw the trap I heard the cheer
and phooey on the ones who snicker
we have evidence: The Glitter
left behind so we remember
magic, hope and things as tender
as our Ewan; round cheeks going
like his hair that once was flowing...
in their place this short-haired Wonder
gads! His humor can't be funder
(watching Duck Tales, gales of laughter
at their waterfall disaster,
they are screaming at their bad lucks
you are giggling "But they ARE ducks!")
You like reading cracks in trees
Junie B. Jones (you still like her, PLEASE?)
I'm not surprised you like to read
with our family you will need
to keep a steady book stream flowing
I Pads, I Pods, me not knowing
all the things with words and showing
how the young ones do outgrow us
how the years pass, how it seems just
yesterday you called it "wheven"

now it's Ewan,
being Seven.

Birthday Poem

Nina's Nine
will be divine
it's clear to everyone,
she mastered eight, she's left the gate,
goodbye, it's done, she won.
The days of Monster High seem gone
who knows where Lego went,
thank goodness for the monkey bars
(which as we know were sent,
to torture grandmas, make us cringe
and wait for heads to dent.)
You started climbing things at one
and haven't stopped it since,
a tree, a playground or a gym
(and every time I WINCE!)
So THAT'S the same and I am glad
for skills that make you happy,
(I'm sorry for the word that rhymes
it happens to be "sappy.")
You jumped in leaves and got straights "Es"
and won for Wonder Woman,
Muppet Tunes in bars, Niagara Falls
(what else is 'comin?)
Oh wait. You know your beers already,
Mamma sometimes asks
if you'd please get her one
(it's on the list of household tasks)
One time she wanted green beer
but you had to say "I tell 'ya,
I'm looking in the fridge and
I can't find you any Stella."
You told your Daddy not to hug you tight
for this one reason,
"you'll squeeze sarcasm out of me!"
(I know you just were 'teasin!)
There never was a day, there never was and never will be
when Daddy hugs could squeeze this trait from you
it's in your fambly.
Besides he loves you madly
as the world does, look at you!

We all know it!
You made us cry with Lean On Me,
you sing and we're all putty,
we get to be that way because
we're all a little nutty.
You make up words (October's blog has the entire list)
lipurpose, blats and borls
of course the "furt" I know I've missed
the scope of its splendifernous
its elegant bespression
but then I play with language too
so this is my confession:
that few things make me happier or give me greater glee
than grandkids who have fun with words
to keep me company.
I love it when you paint my nails
my hair, my eyelids too,
also when you teach me dances
whips then Nae Naes (who?)
You're done with eight sweet girl
but tell me you're not done with purple,
it's such a lovely color and it rhymes so well with blurple.
(I know it doesn't sound good, like a burp right after dinner,
but I'm talking blue and purple hair
which I think is a winner.)
Who cares what others watch?
We have The Minecraft Diaries!
For goodnessakes a girl has rights
to her priorities!
You held a Baby Nona and a Baby Ada too,
some of us held Nina Nina so perhaps we're due,
a little sympathy or just a moment for a pause,
to put our breaking hearts together,
why? Well just because
our memories seem recent while you've left yours far behind,
we're slow to recognize how fast it's gone
and now you're NINE.
But it's okay, we'll celebrate
your Birth Day for forever,
your job's to keep on growing
we don't want to be a tether.
Nine will be ASTOUNDING
we can't wait to see you flying,
but just remember through our smiles
that some of us are sighing...
for Nina of the Golden Hair
our little girl is growing,
the babe we held so long ago
still shining,
always glowing.
