Diapers & daycare

There are a lot of loud screaming/crying babies at daycare. The daycareladies love me because, while I didn't sleep, I was snuggly and not cranky. Which I guess makes me attractive (among other things). They also said I looked older than my age, looking more like a 7-8 month old. Which is appropriate given I'm now in Stage3 diapers (Nina's still in Stage4). I wonder if this means I'll be coloring gray hair while in high school.

Difference of opinion

M: Am I crazy?
n: No! Mamma's a lady!

differentSharon

I introduced Ewan to differentSharon today. Kids and fun and food and fun and round and round with shopping carts! I love it! Poor Ewan thought it was too noisy and didn't sleep well. I guess that's what he gets being in the baby room.

n: (with phone) I call Mamma.

dS: It's naptime. Time to close our eyes and go to sleep.
n: (pointing) He's not sleeping. (pointing) Her eyes are awake.

Packing for daycare

I think I'm all prepared for daycare tomorrow. I've got my soothies, my blankies, my thumbs, and my fingers. And if they don't work, Nina will be right upstairs. I'm sure I'll survive my first day of daycare. Hopefully Mamma and Daddy pack their security items as well.

Boom

Mamma and Daddy have finally figured out my riddle.

I love Boom. I'm scared of Boom. Boom is a tiger, and sand, and windows and men.

Boom is my name for the movie 'Aladdin'.

My other riddles were pretty easy and helped them figure out Boom. 'Doggie and the girl' is code for the movie 'Bolt,' and 'Mr Incredible' is code for 'The Incredibles.'

Nerves

Nina's excited about daycare next week. Me? My nerves are acting up and I keep throwing up all over myself. Hopefully Mamma comes down lots to see me (she's only 2 floors away) to help me ease into this newness.

Presents

M: We're going to Lauren's birthday party tomorrow. What do you think she'd like for her birthday?
n: Trevor.
M: That's her brother. What present do you think she'd like for her birthday?
n: Pat.
M: That's her father. What do you think she'd like to play with on her birthday?
n: Beth.
M: That's her mother. I guess you've chosen the best birthday presents she could have!

IKEA

I love the meatball store. Once I see the blue and yellow, I know that means good happy meatballs. Mmm, mmm, mmm.

Commentary

M: Next week we'll go to daycare. We'll wash our hands and then meet lots of friends.
n: Good story. Good words.

Tennis

There's a major tennis tournament that's played here every year. Mamma and Daddy are excited to go next year. I'm excited to play in it in 20 years. After winning Wimbledon, it will be nice to play on my home turf.

New daycare

I visited differentSharon today. I like differentSharon! I got hugs, and I climbed the stairs step-over-step like a big girl, and they have trikes, and kids and lots of lots of toys! I'm so glad I'll get to share happy differentSharon with my baby brother. And having Mamma down the hall will be kinda neat too. I'm very very excited. Bouncing out the door excited. When does next week arrive?

Toes

I knew my toes were fun to play with, but no one told me that they were tasty and great for tickling your cheeks! What else can I do with these great toes of mine?

Employment

Daddy got a job. Wait. I thought taking care of me and Ewan was his job. Hunh? He can afford to buy me a bike? And I can meet friends at daycare? Yay! Daddy got a job! But poor Daddy, it won't be as fun as being home with us. I hope he'll be okay. Hugs for Daddy.

Ponytails

I've been asking and then not asking Mamma for a ponytail like she wears for a couple of months now. And I've finally been brave enough to let her touch my hair. But I'm only taking baby steps with her and my hair. I'm not letting her do hair clips again. Yet. You did see what she did to the front lawn, right?

Visitors

I love being close to friends! Cole (2y1m) came over to play with Nina (2y4m) today. They played doctor. No really. They used stethoscopes and needles and blood pressure cuffs.
And Luke (2.5m) came over to play/lounge with me (4m).
And although I'm a Buckeye fan, I decided to play nice with our friend Dexter (3.5m). After all, my bouncy chair does have Florida colors. So maybe I'll root for them after OSU (and PSU and UW and even Michigan).

Oh. And their mommies, Heather and Ali (30y+++) came over too.

Teaching

Daddy's a good teacher. Now I'm a good teacher too. I'm teaching Ewan how to sit on the sofa and watch Mr Incredible on the TV!

Zombies

n: Can I have more lollipops?
M: No sorry, I'm sweetie.

Relativity

My big sister needed cuddles and bouncy-bouncy-rocky-rocky for hours to fall asleep. On the other hand, I can fall asleep in seconds. But first you have to put me in my swing. And I like to be bundled up with a blanket on my feet. And then I need another blanket curled under my neck to help me not lose my soother. Don't forget that I like to feel the blanket on my cheeks. And you better make sure my hands are free because I don't like them under the blanket. Then if you give me my soother and put my swing on high, I'll pass out quickly.

And Mamma and Daddy call me the low-maintenance baby.

Blah blah rules

No running with lollipops? But if you gave me the lollipop, you're the one responsible for my current sugar high and the bundles of energy that make me run. I don't understand all these silly rules.

Sisterly advice on your mirthday

Dearest Baby Brudder. When it's late, and you don't want to sleep. Screaming and crying works for a little bit to get our Mamma and Daddy to come get you. But what works better, once you learn how to talk is: "I want more hugs," "change diaper," and "I scared."

4 months!

What a confusing age.

I'm outgrowing the clothing of a 6 month old, but I'm still working on the roll.

I've got the smile/coo down pat and love faces, but am bored by (some) toys. Morti(mer) the Moose is the exception.

I've found my toes, but I've forgotten how to sleep through the night. I still pass out by 8pm, but wake at 11pm (sometimes), 1am and 4am.

I like a soother, blanket and swing for falling asleep. If it's quiet, I'll wake at the slightest noise. But if it's blaring loud music, I'll fall dead asleep.

I don't like tummy time, but I love being helped to sit up and to stand on my feet. I love being helped to stand on my feet and grab for things on the table.

I want to eat a lot, but also like to fuss while I eat. In which case I'll eat towels, blankets, my fingers. I'm a fan of the thumb-blanket-manoeuver-suck. And I still love my soother.

I'm hoping to form a greater self-identity by my next mirthday. But by then I'll be fitting the clothing of a 1-year old, so maybe not.

Blowing bubbles

Note to self. Bubble-blowing wands are not lollipops. Do not put in mouth. Otherwise "I'll need a bandaid in the mouth."

New career

Wildlife photographer.

I do not like this game. I do not want to play.

Well. We won the game of making Mamma and Daddy into zombies. But that meant I had to stay up for almost 2 hours last night screaming and crying in tooth pain (while my dear sister slept through the whole thing). Sometimes it's not fun to win. It really really hurts to lie on your back while teething. I hope tonight we can call it a draw, and Mamma and Daddy will give me good medicine and let me sleep in the swing again.

Bye-bye NeeNee

Thanks for coming to visit NeeNee. Thank you for teaching me how to wave bye-bye to you. Even if it was really confusing to grasp the concept while you were still here.

Training for my first marathon

It's good to have the room to run around while I train for my first marathon. I much prefer running in air conditioning.

Quotables

M: Where are you going?
n: I'm going to tan.

D: Where are you going?
n: I'm going to buy shoes.

Grass

I saw Mamma cut the lawn outside for the first time. Maybe with practice she'll do a more even job. But I'm scared for the first time she tries to cut my hair. Please oh please oh please let Daddy be the one that cuts my hair.

Our plan is working

Our plan of making our parents into zombies is nicely coming together. Although we didn't perform up-to-snuff two nights ago, you should have seen us last night! I screamed all night and then didn't fall asleep until 11:30pm, lying in Mamma and Daddy's bed giving kisses while they slept. And Ewan managed to wake up twice. And then we were all awake at 6am. This is a very fun game as the end result is that Mamma and Daddy walk like toddlers and babble like infants.

About time!

Bedstemor and Bedstefar bought me this awesome kitchen a month ago. It has to be the most awesome kitchen because it took Mamma a month to put it together! Now I just need to go food shopping so I can get cooking.

Team work

Our master plan of exhausting our parents is working. Nina's refusing her naps, staying up later and waking up at 4am. For my part, I'm waking up 3 times at night rather than once (1am, 4am and 6am). You should see the walking zombies we've turned our parents into. This is great fun!

Addiction

My blankets need me. They need me to gnaw on them. It makes them feel needed. I could quit my blanket sucking tomorrow if I wanted to. But I don't want to.

Old MacDonald

NeeNee: Do you want to read this book?
n: E-I-E-I-No.

Mamma's home and Ewan's home and NeeNee's here and YAY!

n: NeeNee have pretty necklace. Nina wear NeeNee's necklace. Now is Nina's necklace.

I miss Daddy

Conferences are really fun

Definition of "going to a conference": Seeing Mormor. Hanging out by the pool. Being told I'm adorable and the greatest conference-baby. I LOVE CONFERENCES!

Conferences are fun

Definition of "going to a conference": Seeing friends. Hanging out by the water. Eating ice cream (vicariously through Mamma). I like conferences!

Toronto. Again?

Admittedly, the last time I was here I was a mere blastocyte. And this time Mamma is showing me the sites of downtown. I just think it would be considerate if she took me out touring while I wasn't asleep.

Daddy time

Mamma and Ewan are taking a trip and leaving me and Daddy alone. PAAAA-AARRTY! We're going to go find dinosaurs and go to the museum and have meatballs and eat lollipops and ice cream and sit outside and my life won't revolve around someone else's bottle-time and go for walks and read books. I'll try to miss Mamma too. Just a little.

Rolling over

I may be on the verge of rolling over, I may not be on the verge of rolling over. I'm in no rush. Because after rolling comes crawling and walking and cleaning your own room and getting things for other people and I'm quite content being waited on hand and foot at the moment. Life is good.

Returning the favor

Last weekend I shared all my toys with Lauren and Trevor. This weekend they shared all their toys with me. Sharing in return for twice as many toys? I love this game! However, 24 hours later, none of us had the energy to move a muscle.

Hugs & kisses

I've founds my hands, but my coordination isn't yet 100% for giving hugs. Good thing my buddy Trevor will settle for kisses and face-eating in return for his hugs.
